SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — A man and his parents were sentenced Wednesday in connection with the killing of the man's wife at a Spartanburg County home.

According to 7th Circuit Solicitor Barry J. Barnette, Mathew Konnecker "Konner" Long pleaded guilty to murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The 28-year-old was sentenced to 42 years in prison for the shooting that occurred at Vista Drive in Moore on April 3, 2022.

Officials said that Long called his estranged wife, Donna Victoria Grace Long, and asked her to come to his home. When Donna Long arrived, Mathew argued with her.

Mathew Long got a gun and shot his wife multiple times.

Long's parents, Carolyn Veronica Long and Donald Charles Long were at the home at the time of the shooting. Donald Long called 911.

First responders saw Donald Long leaving the home with a bag before deputies arrived. Carolyn Long gave the gun Mathew used to Donald to dispose of.

Donna Long was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Deputies spoke with Mathew and Carolyn, who gave conflicting explanations of what had happened.

Carolyn Long said that an unknown person came into the home and shot Donna.

In the 911 call, Mathew Long can be heard yelling as Donna pleaded for him to stop. Long's parents can also be heard in the phone call.

Mathew Long admitted to shooting Donna Long repeatedly.

Investigators were able to use traffic cameras and cell phone data to track Donald Long to Saluda, North Carolina after the shooting.

Polk County deputies and the Saluda Fire Department helped recover the gun used to shoot Donna Long.

Carolyn Long, 80, pleaded guilty to obstructing justice and accessory after the fact to murder. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison suspended upon serving two years on home detention.

Donald Long, 73, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison suspended upon serving two years on home detention.

“Donna was cruelly taken from her friends and family by Mathew Long and then his parents worked to cover up what he had done," Barnette said. "Through the work of the justice system, Mathew Long is exactly where he should be.”
